This upscale restaurant serves quality dishes with lovely presentation in a timely manner. Our server seemed disinterested when he rambled off the specials for the evening but his service and attention improved over the progression of the meal. The resto has a partially open kitchen...which is cool to observe and the interior of the restaurant is warm and inviting with brick walls, wood-planked ceiling and white tablecloths but the tv screen showing sports above the bar kinda ruined the upscale ambience. Free parking. Reservations recommended. The teas were also worth noting superb tasting with the meal and from the tea shop a few doors over.

Warm greetings at the door, tables not too close together, smart, efficient waitress. It was an excellent evening. I had the seafood pasta with lots of big fat shrimp and my not too hungry husband had the pizza piled with prosciutto. I only had one...glass of wine my only blink, a little high for ounces) my husband doesn’t drink but that didn’t mean we didactic get lots of attention. Several water glass fills, oh and we split a Caesar salad that was plenty for the two of us. My new absolute favourite here in KW. It isn’t very big, make a reservation.

We have been eating here since we moved to Kitchener 5 years ago. Never had a bad meal or bad service. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful.Started with the octopus starter which is always delicious. My wife had the pasta special and I had the liver special. We both enjoyed our meals immensely.

The food was good, although not spectacular. Salads, pasta and the lamb burger. The service was subpar: the server asked for our order too soon, and we waited an hour between our apps and mains. (Second time this has happened to us at this restaurant). When our final bill came we were charged for a half litre of wine that we did not have. In general service was clumsy-- took away side plate and didn't replace, had to ask for bread, and other minor mistakes ... but too many of them.

Our first visit was delightful from the outstanding service, the menu selections to the fine execution! While JLB menu offerings are modest, there is enough diversity and interest to appeal to any diner. They even offer two sandwich items and one pizza selection nightly. Pricing is fair and moderate, with appetizers not exceeding twelve dollars, while most entrees are In the low to mid twenties with a half a rack of lamb at low to mid thirties. We started with two wines by the glass from the small but adequate selections ranging from $10-13 per glass. My Pinot Grigio was good, round with ample fruit and acidity. My wife's Prosecco was a bit too fruity, so they offered a replacement of the Cave Spring Dolomite, which was dry, flavorful and a more serious sparkling wine choice. The bread basket was filled with delicious warm, crusty sour dough slices, which arrived shortly after we were seated- a nice touch! Our appetizers were winners:My wife's tarragon salad was crisp, fresh and tasty while my soft shell crab was light, crisp and juicy served on a bed of moist greens. Two more wines by the glass for our entrees were a Malbec, fruity and balanced to a Cotes du Rhone that was a bit lean and harsh on the finish. Our entrees also were quite satisfying from my wife's house special burger to my duck confit, crisp on the outside and tender within on greens in a flavorful sauce. Many of dessert offerings contained ice cream so we chose the sorbet with chocolate mousse tart, which was eatable, but not in the same class as the very good first and second courses.Service throughout was outstanding, in particular from Philippe who was knowledgeable, friendly and highly professional! This review is worthy of 4.5 stars and JLB warrants a return visit! Very Highly Recommended!

Recently dined with a colleague for lunch. Ordered the pasta of the day. The main arrived hot and steaming. Well prepared and very tasty. Service as attentive and professional. Can always count on great food and service at JLB.
