we stopped at the Harbour House for lunch with our Grandchildren,to celebrate our fifty first wedding anniversary, when server came,we said, no fish and chips, said they had a pan fried Haddock dish, when i asked if they had fries,(we had 2 children with us)they said,oh yes we have fries,we do them in the oven, well that was a mistake to order them, soggy.my granddaughter ordered a chicken dish, her chicken was very under cooked, they wanted to take it back, she said no,that she couldn't eat anything now.on a good note the server was very friendly, also they gave us a 20.00 gift card, needless to say we will not be using it.
I took my family to Pictou for a couple of nights, just to get away. There's not a lot to do but it's a great place to relax. The first here we had lunch at this place and t was great. I had the chowder which was excellent. My wife had the lunch special which she was pleased with. The kids both had the Caesar salad which they liked and completely finished. The service was a little chaotic but to be fair I think 5 full tables arrived on the patio within 2 minutes. The server made sure that everyone had a drink while they were looking at the menu. They have a couple of choices for local drinks but I wish they had more.we went back the next day for a drink and would definitely go back if I'm in Pictou ever again; which is highly likely.
We stopped there based on the reviews. I ordered the casserole. It was obviously put in the microwaves. Parts were cool, other were hot. It tasted like canned soup mixed with fish. No Lobster to be found. A few mini scallops, some fish with bones. Very small portion too.Veggies on the side tasted rubbery and were obviously from a frozen bag. The fries were cold and soggy and I counted 10 of them, but I ate only 1. My daughter had wings, which were not warm and were like KFC wings. My other daughter had a small Cesar salad which was served overloaded with Parmesan cheese on a tea plate. It was a very small portion. My husband had the club sandwich. Nothing really wrong with it, but how can you really mess up a club sandwich? The white wine was served too warm and they put ice cubes in the apple cider, which is a bit weird. The service was good, the atmosphere was pleasant but the food was the worse I've had in a long time.
We dined at the Harbour House during our stay in Pictou based on reviews here. Our expections for this type of retaurant were not high but we had a good time, with friendly efficient service. We ordered one course at a time to avoid being rushed with our dinner. The tacos is as expected a mountain of tortilla chips with cheese and tomato, etc. The soup was also good. For a main course the chicken penne pasta was actually very tasty and an empty dish resulted. We had wine by the glass with a choice of red or white. It is clearly not a wine drinker's paradise in Pictou, but quite passable.
The menu warned that service could be slow at the time we were there, and it was right on! It was extremely slow. We each had a burger, chips (fries), and a small slaw. The burger was ordinary, thin, and wanted to fall apart easily. The chips (French fries) were the worst ever, tough and apparently under-cooked. We ate on a covered deck with a harbor view. There were also tables inside.
We were staying across the street and noticed this restaurant. We decided to stop in and get breakfast to go - and we both had the egg sandwich. It was so good! The bun made it. We also opted to have the home fries which were reasonably priced. Coffee was good and everyone inside was super friendly. A great find!!
This business was recommended by McCulloch House. Ordered chowder however the pieces of lobster in same were "thawed". It almost tasted like imitation crab. There is also another business practicality set up in the business's back lot.
