Came here with my boyfriend on a Saturday night and it was great that we made a reservation because the place was bumping!Sadly their chicken wings were sold out but we got the dumpling stuffed chicken instead. That was crazy good juicy although it was stuffed with meat inside. The takoyaki was also delicious - the Osaka don was essentially takoyaki in rice form which I LOVED because I've never seen that before and I love takoyaki. Lastly we shared the chef's social yakitori combo which was pretty good overall, I suggest adding some spices to increase some flavoring though.
We have discovered this gem for Japanese food. My wife loves uni, hamachi, ebi etc while I prefer salmon sashimi, appetizers and the ‘simple and traditional’ rolls. This is one of our Top 5 places in the Markham/Richmond Hill/Thornhill areas for freshness, taste, ambience and...value. We had the Uni (from Japan), clam sashimi, spicy salmon and spicy tuna rolls last night and it was very good! Call ahead for a reservation as this place is busy.
I've been coming here for years and always order the same dishes.I highly recommend the Gindara Daikon. It may not look appetizing, but I assure you that you can't find a tastier cod and radish dish anywhere else! I also absolutely love the Osaka Cha-han rice (fried rice with squid topped with the typical takoyaki seasoning and sauce.)
This SPECIAL item has the really stinky fish smell and taste, and all bits and pieces are deep fried to max so they are extremely dry!I talked to the chef, and he knew the root cause of the problem which is the trash grade fish. Of course they refused to take their trash back. This reminds me the scrapple, a special item from Philadelphia, but scrapple tastes way better than this dish!!!Btw. one possible explanation of super deep fried extremely dry food is that the fish is not fresh, and deep fry is applied to mask the stinky smell.
As izakaya's go in Toronto, I'd rate this place top ten. The dumplings that are chicken wings are a marvel and unique to this place (as far as I know.) You really can't go wrong with any Japanese owned Japanese restaurant. It is in their culture to take pride in their work and their reputation.
We had lunch there last week and we were very pleased with the service and the quality of the food , The waitress was friendly ,efficient and courteous and since I walk with the help of a cane, she made sure I had a booth that was in an accessible location to washroom etc. The food was served in good time and it was tasty and hot.The chicken had more flavour than some other Swiss Chalets, and the mashed potatoes were light and fluffy.Salads and rolls were fresh and crunchy. The restaurant was clean and the washrooms were also in the same condition. We have been going there for quite a few years, and we have never been disappointed either by the food ,staff or cleanliness of the restaurant. For some reason it is never crowded as the one at Markville, which is a good thing since there never a wait for a table or take-out and the staff is not rushed. We are glad they are in our neighbourhood so we can depend on them for tasty ,wholesome food served by caring staff who seem to enjoy their jobs and their customers.Thank you .
I have been a loyal and frequent patron of this once Good restaurant that has fallen victim to some the worst Service in the Service Industry! After multiple visits with the same poor server, I made a point to ask for a different server. The phrase out of the frying pan into the fire comes to mind when I see what I got! My Wife requested 2 of her favorite drinks a lemonade with fresh mint and ice frapped together the waitress said could not have it! I asked for a dish of pickles she said" not available we are out of pickles" My wife notices another patron with the drink she requested and refused and went over to the take out got 2 of them and returned to our table .Having been lied to the Manager was passing and I asked if pickles were no longer available or had they ran out he promptly returned with the usual tray of pickles. My dish came smaller quantities than usual falafel over cooked and everything of a lower quality , the lafta was over cooked and flavorless. we usually anticipate its arrival. My Wife's salad now way over due has to be fetched yet again by the Manage for in the last 25 minuets our server was no where to be seen. The salad dressing that we normally request a double portion is not the same and now made with quadruple the vinegar and no oil! No one refilled the empty water glasses not just us but all tables were experiencing a drought. at the 1 hour mark no service no waiter and no bill and guess what NO TIP and especially NO RETURN EVER!! Management due yourself and your business a favor and FIRE her! This is a $1500 + per year just from this one lost patron I know I am not the only one!
We were visiting our son in Barrie and went for mexican one evening. We ended up being a party of 10. Service was great and so was the food. The portions were very large and our daughter left with a "doggy bag". My father-in-law had the surf and turf burrito and was delighted. Our younger son had the fish tacos and said they were really good. Others had combo platters while I tried the Holy Mole Burrito. We shared 2 plates of churros and were on our way with our bellies full and happy as can be. The atmosphere was loud and cheerful. We were near the opened garage door on the street and could people watch and see the "car show" on Dunlop. Our waitress came often to make sure everything was alright. We stayed til close to closing time but never felt rushed to leave. We would go back for sure as this restaurant is also very affordable.
