Traveled with a group of friends and were excited to eat supper at Il Teatro. My husband and I had visited the restaurant before and had a great meal. We arrived at the restaurant and asked about availability of seating for five people. The hostess told us there would be a wait of 15 to 20 minutes and they would page us when a table became available. We stood outside the restaurant chatting, believing that a table would become available soon. Finally, after about 50 minutes, a group of 4 women exited the restaurant and directly beside their table for 4 was an empty table for two. I asked the waitress if they could put the two tables and she spoke to one of the waiters. We assumed we would soon be seated, however no move was made to set up the two tables. We were standing in front of the restaurant waiting for tables to be set when what we assumed was the manager approached us and told us to move away from the front if the restaurant. If we were blocking someone's way, I would have understood, however we were not in front of the entrance nor were we being loud or disrespectful. We were customers waiting to be seated and obviously wanted to eat at Il Teatro as we had now waited for an hour. He then told the hostess to tell us that they had to save the table of four for groups of four who might arrive, that we would only be seated at round tables that were set for five, that those tables were taken by paying customers and that we would have to continue to wait for however long it took for them to finish. There were no other people waiting for seats so this was very confusing to us. Why would they not accommodate 5 customers ready to pay in favour of six customers who were not even there? We decided that for whatever reason, we were not welcome at the restaurant and so I approached the hostess, who was lovely by the way and appeared embarrassed by what had transpired, and told her we would be going to another restaurant and that we certainly did not feel welcome at Il Teatro. She apologized and we said it was not her fault. The manager, who stood by and listened, neither apologized or acknowledged us in anyway. So disappointing and to add insult to injury, when we passed the restaurant on our way back to our hotel, we saw tables arranged to accommodate an odd numbered grouping of seven men. Tables had been moved to accommodate them. Very disappointing and poor customer service.
