Sitting in this restaurant looking at the decor, watching how the staff interacted, people watching, eavesdropping, and seeing the food being made, delivered and eaten I made an observation. This place is the quintessential deli. The excellent service was unique, sincere and not scripted. It was very busy but we were seated without a wait. We ordered the beauty special
As a New Yorker I loved the Nova platter and bagels. Large enough to share, it pushed all the right buttons. Friendly staff and retro decor. Try it!
The atmosphere is the main thing here, the seriously old-school decor and fittings all perfectly nostalgic for the good old days of diners. The hustle and bustle of the staff, the quiet feasting of the customers, the fizz and hiss of the food preparation all contribute to a truly charming mood. We were sat at a rather cosy little two-seater table, almost a booth but not quite; there wasn't a lot of space, but plenty for our brunch needs. The menu was rammed with tempting options, I had ham and eggs which came with the most delicious fried potato mush, plus a bagel and cream cheese for good measure; everything was hot and fresh and perfect. Thoroughly enjoyed people-watching as well as face-stuffing, and staggered out thoroughly satisfied and delighted.
A fantastic place to have brunch! The setting is true to the diner concept and the food was utterly delucious! Staff were nice and friendly - and fast. This is a must go.

A real institution for Montreal and a magnet for starving students, this place is a must for a Sunday brunch. The super beauty 2 had so many calories with 2 eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes, 2 pancakes with maple syrup, bagels etc that almost felt wrong to only pay 14$. Prepare for long lines, but moving quick and make sure you get to speak to the owner, still working and young in spirit . The special with smoked salmon and cream cheese was also excellent on a sesame bagel
Food was good. Standard diner breakfast fare. No complaints, enjoyed it. But it's the people that make a difference. Owned and operated by the same family since it opened in 1942. Owner runs the register. His daughter helps and waits tables. Grandson behind the counter. Oh, his father and late mother opened it. Their pics are on the postcards. They were just the friendliest people, put a smile on all our faces. Definitely worth a stop.
I don't understand why this place is an institution of Montreal. The breakfast are ok, but everything else is just plain horrible. The booths are so old you can feel the springs and the vinyl is all cracked. The man bathroom is filthy, light fixture hanging by a rod, toilet paper all over the floor, graffiti on the door and not to mention the smell! Just plain disgusting. I will never step my foot in that dump again.
