Half the time the place isn't open for breakfast. Half the time it is closed by 6 PM. Certainly can't plan on Master's as a destination with Darlene's fickle hours.

Darlene and her daughter Karen may be the worst servers I have ever had. They swore and were yelling at each other like they were hillbillies. I've seen them take food off a plate and eat it on the way to the table. I've never felt more disgusted. Recently Darlene had a Help Wanted sign in the window. Can't image the poor girl who ends up having to fix everything those two old bats screw up!!Wouldn't recommend masters to anyone.

I pooped in here with my family after the calgary stampede parade was finished. I had the masters burger (Its with cheese and bacon.) I highly recommend that. They were really considerate about me being gluten free due to celiac. Although the hamburger isnt my favorite of all time this is in the top 3 for sure. The fries that they do is awesome. The seasoning that they add is mmmmmm.

Only found this by accident as we were staying in the Ramada next door, and what a find. We popped in for lunch and were served by the most cheerful Karen who turns out to be the owner. The other patrons were obviously local businessmen who are frequenters as she knew everyone's names and was having happy banter with everyone. Its the sort of "local" service like this that's missing in the corporate zombie churn outs that we all have to put up with nowadays. We spotted on the menu a French Beef Dip sandwich (recently being made famous by Man vs Food). As we don't have that in the UK, my husband ordered it and I plumped for a Halibut Burger. After two bites he was claiming it was the best sandwich he had ever eaten. My halibut was hot, the batter light and the roll and salad really fresh and the fries were tangy hot, but I was being taunted at having missed out - so we went back the next day so that I could experience the sarnie for myself and he's right, its excellent.Served in a soft baguette that's been lightly dipped, the home roasted slivers of beef melt in the mouth. Its accompanied by a bowl of jus for extra dipping and a mound of home roasted thick cut potatoes (or fries if you prefer). I couldn't get the recipe out of Karen but I will be experimenting. We had said we'd be back the next day, and when we went in we were greeted like long lost friends. A bonus in a faraway city. Thanks to Karen and her crew for a last and happy memory of Calgary !

Tonight I joined a group of colleages at Masters after work. It is a regular haunt for us. Soon the table was approached by the proprietor Darlene who presented me with a tab for two pints of Stella. Purportedly I had not paid my tab the last time I was in her establishment. Fine ... I'll pay for the two pints but it will be a d cold day before I darken your doors again. She needs to learn a lesson on how to treat regular customers !!

This evening I was witness to quite the spectacle. A mother and daughter were enjoying a drink when they were approached by the proprietor (Darlene) who accused them of passing a counterfeit five dollar bill on their last visit. She called building security and took their photo on her cellphone. Who counterfeits a $5 bill?I find the beer overpriced and the portions small. The place is never that busy and clearly if this is what passes for customer service at Master's I recommend one go elsewhere.
